CMS to Lift UC Payment Deferral

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has informed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission that it plans to lift the current deferral of federal uncompensated care payments. In late September, CMS notified the state that it was deferring payment of $75 million in federal UC payments to certain private hospitals in Regional Healthcare Partnerships 4, 9 and 10 under the Texas Healthcare Transformation and Quality Improvement Program Waiver. CMS deferred the payments because it questioned the permissibility of certain financing arrangements for supplemental payments to private hospitals.
