Texas Healthcare Trustees presents the Governance Achievement Award to an exceptional hospital or health system board that has demonstrated unwavering commitment to effective governance and selfless service to their hospital and community.

The Board of the Uvalde County Hospital Authority is the recipient of the 2026 Texas Healthcare Trustees Governance Achievement Award in recognition of its exceptional leadership, engagement, and unwavering commitment to Uvalde Memorial Hospital and the community it serves.

Comprised of seven dedicated community leaders, the Board exemplifies the vital role governance plays in advancing healthcare in rural communities. Their service extends well beyond the boardroom, as members remain highly visible and engaged throughout the hospital and the community. Through their accessibility, transparency, and commitment to building strong relationships, they have fostered a culture of trust and confidence among staff, leadership, and community members alike.

Under the Board’s leadership, Uvalde Memorial Hospital has experienced a period of significant growth and transformation. The Board played a critical role in guiding the organization through the transition into a new hospital facility, strengthening the hospital’s ability to provide high-quality care and meet the evolving needs of the region. Building on that success, the Board continues to support the development of a new Medical Office Building that will expand access to specialty services, attract additional providers, and reduce the need for residents to travel outside the community for care.

Throughout periods of growth and challenge, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board has demonstrated steady and thoughtful leadership. Their focus on patient care, employee well-being, and long-term strategic planning has helped ensure the hospital remains positioned for continued success while maintaining a strong connection to the community it serves. Equally important, the Board has remained committed to fostering an environment where employees feel valued, leadership remains aligned, and community members feel confident in the hospital’s future.

As Uvalde Memorial Hospital continues to evolve, the Board of the Uvalde County Hospital Authority remains focused on expanding access to care while preserving the culture, relationships, and community trust that have long defined the organization. Through their vision, dedication, and servant leadership, they have made a lasting impact on both the hospital and the community, exemplifying the principles of outstanding healthcare governance recognized by the Governance Achievement Award.
