Overview
The Certified Healthcare Trustee and Leader designation is a voluntary program designed to help hospital board members and health care leaders strengthen their governance knowledge and leadership skills. Earning the CHTL affirms your understanding of the complexities of the health care environment and governance best practices, enabling you to lead your organization more effectively and efficiently.
Certification through the CHTL program demonstrates your commitment to staying informed and engaged in a rapidly evolving field. It highlights your dedication to improving health care, expanding your expertise and guiding your hospital with confidence. As a CHTL, you signal to your board, organization, and community that you are prepared to make informed decisions and help set a strong strategic direction.
Steps to Become a CHTL:
1. Purchase the exam – The exam fee is $125 for members and $150 for non-members. You will have seven days to complete the exam and up to three attempts to pass. You can purchase the CHTL Study Guide and the CHTL Exam on the THT website through the buttons above.
2. Pass the exam – A score of 70% or higher is required to earn certification.
3. Receive your certification – After passing the exam, you will receive your official CHTL certificate, which will be valid for three years.
This program has a term of three years with an option to renew after the third year. Education requirements for renewal must either be completed through approved sources or completed in specific categories.
