Texas Healthcare Trustees presents the Ollie Jo Bozeman Excellence in Administrative Professionalism Award to a hospital administrative professional with an exceptional record of commitment and contributions to ensure quality hospital governance.

With over 22 years under her belt at Dimmit Regional Hospital in Carrizo Springs, Texas, Martha Castaneda has served as the executive assistant to the Hospital Chief Executive Officer for more than 12 years. Castaneda held various positions at the hospital before taking on her current role where she supports the CEO along with the entire executive team, directly and indirectly, which includes the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Finance Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer. She has been regarded for her considerable patience and understanding in supporting the executive team.

With unparalleled communication and organizational skills, Castaneda is recognized for continuously taking the lead on morale and organizational/community well-being activities and her dedication and commitment to her community and colleagues.

Castaneda’s primary responsibilities include working closely with two boards, the Dimmit Regional Hospital District Board and the Dimmit Regional Hospital Corporation Board, although not formally the Secretary for each. She supports 14 directors/members in total and ensures compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act. This includes recording and preparing minutes for each Board, coordinating meeting times with fully prepared agendas, and ensuring all directors/members are fully aware of their obligations. Castaneda also ensures election notices and processes meet state and local requirements.

Colleagues value Castaneda’s corporate knowledge and rely on her for scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, following up on action items, and other tasks as needed. Castaneda is best known for Dimmit’s internal Service Excellence Program.

A widow, cancer survivor, mother of two daughters, and grandmother of two, Castaneda is held in high regard by those who work closely with her.

Castaneda is recognized for not only excellence in hospital administration but also her character, integrity and dedication to health care leadership. She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Sul Ross State University.
