Dear Colleagues,
It has been a pleasure to travel the state and meet trustees and CEOs this past year. I have had the opportunity to see public, for-profit and nonprofit hospitals' governing boards and it's been gratifying to see excellent health care governance, a focus on patient safety and passionate board members in action.
Recently I started making presentations at hospital board meetings and board retreats. I spoke at the Texas Health Resources Leadership Retreat in March and this month at Medical City Dallas' board retreat. In my presentations, I honor and thank trustees for their service and outline ways they can be involved with advocacy on a state level. AHA Pilot Program
Texas has been chosen by the American Hospital Association as one of four states to pilot an advocacy program. AHA has asked Texas Healthcare Trustees to lead an initiative to involve 25-30 Texas trustees in a national grassroots advocacy campaign. Trustees will receive training and will participate by contacting national elected officials on key issues. Please contact me to get more information on how to get involved with this exciting new national program.
THT's Annual Conference
You won't want to miss the Texas Healthcare Trustees' 2008 Annual Conference, July 24-26, at the new Grand Hyatt San Antonio. This conference will provide trustees with the opportunity to learn more about their mission as community stewards. Sessions this year will focus on leadership, governance and compliance, and delve into understanding performance measures, best practices in physician recruiting and workforce development.

Founders' Award – Nominate a Board Member Today!
For more than 35 years, THT has presented the Founders' Award to a distinguished health care trustee with an exemplary record of leadership, dedication and excellence in health care governance and in community service. In conjunction with the THT 2008 Annual Conference, the award recipient will be presented the Founders' Award on July 25 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio.

A Moving Experience
The Texas Hospital Association's new headquarters location (THT's new home too!) at 1108 Lavaca St. is nearing completion! Pending the outcome of inspections, the building may receive a permit for occupancy as early as April 25. Following installation of computer and telephone equipment, the move-in will occur. Tentatively, the move date is set for May 14-18, and the new office will be open for business on May 19.
