"Education, Advocacy, Leadership"

Dear Colleagues,
 Stacy Cantu Photo

On Jan. 21–22, more than 30 trustees met at the Texas Healthcare Trustees Health Care Policy Workshop in Austin. The workshop included training for the American Hospital Association pilot program that seeks to engage more trustees in grassroots advocacy, focusing on communicating with legislators, developing a key message and taking action. Trustees also heard presentations on upcoming issues in the Texas Legislature, physician retention linked to quality and effecting change in tough times.

THA 2009 Legislative Agenda

As the Texas Legislature meets in 2009, the Texas Hospital Association, THT and their members from across the state are working to ensure that health care issues are at the top of the legislative agenda. THA developed a 2009 Legislative Agenda brochure that outlines the key health care-related issues and solutions for improving the health and well-being of Texans.

It is probably no surprise to trustees that THA has chosen the uninsured and the nursing shortage as its primary issues this legislative session. THT mailed copies of the THA 2009 legislative agenda to all board chairs in early February. To obtain extra copies, contact Stacy Cantu.

I have found that the silence of the community is the success of a good medical board.
