Physician Recruitment and Retention in Rural Communities

May 21
Noon – 1 p.m. Central

Rural hospitals and clinics are challenged on many fronts, and among the top three is the physician shortage.  How can you offer a rewarding clinical practice and balanced lifestyle to attract – and keep – physicians and advanced practice providers? The answer is to develop and implement the right strategy and operational practices, starting with recruitment and extending well beyond start-up. This session will outline the challenge, explore what works, and demonstrate how board members contribute to the solution. The speakers will share examples and actionable tactics to support your physicians, leaders and community in the successful recruitment of new providers and their families.

Learner Objectives:

  • Understand how the current state of the industry, including local, regional and national trends, influences recruitment in your back yard.
  • Articulate how transparency, autonomy and sustainability translate into actionable practices that provide your rural hospital with a competitive edge.
  • Identify specific tactics and action steps that leaders and board members can and should undertake to be more successful in recruiting providers who fit.
